City of Apopka: weekly bulky pickup on your yard waste day
Large items such as furniture go curbside on your yard waste collection day, once a week. Your day depends on your address. Look it up, print a calendar or sign up for reminders with the city's ReCollect tool on the Solid Waste page. The page also has a Waste Wizard that tells you how to get rid of a specific item.
Did your day change this year? Starting the week of March 2, 2026, the city moved yard waste and bulky pickup for some areas (garbage and recycling days didn't change):
- Now Wednesdays: Chandler Estates, Winding Meadows, Plymouth Landing 1 and 2, and Albatross, Bob White, Thrush, Nightingale, Skylark and Sandpiper streets west of Park Ave.
- Now Fridays: the area between Park Ave and Bradshaw, south of US 441 to 10th Street (both sides of 10th).
What counts as bulky waste
From the city's 2025 utility newsletter: furniture, homeowner interior remodeling debris, fencing and decking, large toys, coolers, crates and boxes that are too big for your carts, plus large or heavy limbs and thorny bushes. Moving boxes also go out on your bulk and yard waste day.
Not collected: debris from whole-tree removals or lot clearing, and tree debris more than 6 inches in diameter. The city says its equipment can't safely handle it.
City fees (FY 2026 residential rates)
| Service | City of Apopka rate |
|---|---|
| Bulky waste and yard waste, up to 4 cubic yards | Free ($0.00) |
| Each additional cubic yard | $17.16 |
| Non-bundled yard waste (up to 4 cubic yards, and each additional yard) | $17.16 |
| White goods: extraordinary handling, including Freon items | $17.16 |
The newsletter says extra charges are added to your utility bill automatically. The city describes 4 cubic yards as about a pickup truck load. To measure: width × height × length in feet, divided by 27.
Apartments and businesses: the city's rate sheet lists separate non-residential bulky rates ($50.99 minimum for up to 4 cubic yards, $25.51 each additional yard) and white-goods rates ($50.99 for the first two items, $17.51 each additional). Check with your property manager first.
How to set it out
- Furniture and boxes: at the curb on your yard waste day.
- Limbs: the city's 2025 newsletter says to cut them to 5 feet and stack them neatly near the curb, away from basketball goals, low branches, utility wires, transformers, sprinkler heads, fire hydrants, cars and mailboxes. (The city's FAQ gives a stricter 4-foot, 30-pound bundle rule. See the note below.)
- Leaves and small debris: bagged or in a can, under 30 pounds each, and not in your city trash or recycling carts.
- No pickups on Thanksgiving or Christmas, including bulky service, and the city doesn't schedule make-up days.
Appliances, electronics and TVs: Wednesdays, by request
- Appliances, electronics and TVs are picked up on Wednesdays only, and you have to schedule it. Call Apopka Public Services at 407-703-1731. The city's 2025 newsletter says to call by Tuesday.
- Remove the doors from refrigerators and freezers before setting them out. The city requires it for safety.
- Freon-containing items such as refrigerators and freezers carry a handling fee. The FY 2026 rate sheet lists $17.16. Older city pages show $16.11 and $12.36.

Paint, chemicals and batteries: Orange County drop-off

Pay someone to take it
The city doesn't pick up whole-tree debris or lot-clearing waste, and appliances wait for a Wednesday. If you need it gone sooner or can't move it to the curb, a junk-removal or tree service can haul it for a fee. We haven't verified prices for Apopka-area companies, so we don't list any. Ask whether disposal fees are included in the quote.
What we couldn't verify
We list these openly rather than guess:
- Whether a new bulky-waste program has taken effect. In January 2025, the Apopka City Council approved the concept of a revised yard waste and bulky program (lower free limits, special contractor bags and per-pickup charges). The city's current FY 2026 rate sheet still lists bulky and yard waste as free up to 4 cubic yards, and we found no official notice that the new program started. Confirm at 407-703-1731.
- The exact Freon fee. The FY 2026 rate sheet lists $17.16 for white goods "extraordinary handling (including Freon-containing items)," the city's FAQ says $16.11, and the 2025 newsletter says $12.36. We use the newest rate sheet.
- Limb length. The 2025 newsletter says cut limbs to 5 feet; the city's FAQ says branches should be no more than 4 feet, in bundles under 30 pounds, and no more than 6 inches around. To be safe, follow the stricter 4-foot rule.
- Whether mattresses count as bulky items. City pages name furniture but don't mention mattresses specifically.
- Whether Apopka residents can use the city's free 4 cubic yards more than once a week or carry it over. The city says pickup is weekly but doesn't spell this out.
- Junk-removal prices in the Apopka area.
