Quick answer

  • Unincorporated Orange County: small, prepared amounts can go out for large-item collection on your garbage day (3 cubic yards per week max). Carpet and fencing must be cut to 3 feet or less, in bundles or rolls under 60 lbs. Small amounts of broken-up drywall can go in the green-lid garbage cart (300 lb cart limit). Big loads go to the Orange County Landfill.
  • City of Orlando: for remodel debris the city points you to a $100 dumpster-bag pickup (billed on your OUC bill) or a City roll-off dumpster (20 or 30 yard, charged by the ton). The city requires that C&D project debris be hauled by a City-approved roll-off hauler. Questions: 407.246.2314.
  • Haul it yourself: the Orange County Landfill (5901 Young Pine Rd) takes construction & demolition debris at $42.70/ton (Class III, $10 minimum, rates effective Oct 1, 2026). Public hours are Mon–Sat, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Porter and McLeod Road transfer stations don't take Class III debris.
  • Reusable cabinets, doors, windows, fixtures or sinks? West Orange Habitat for Humanity's ReStore in Winter Garden accepts building supplies in clean, working condition and offers free pickup for large items.

First: are you in the City of Orlando or unincorporated Orange County?

The rules on this page depend on who collects your trash. An "Orlando" mailing address doesn't mean you're inside city limits:

Hired a contractor? On its storm-debris page, the City of Orlando says contractors hired for repairs must haul away the debris they generate. Ask your contractor whether debris removal is in the quote before work starts.

Unincorporated Orange County

Orange County's What Goes Where tool has specific instructions for common remodel materials. Small, prepared amounts can go out with large-item collection on your garbage day. Set items out neatly at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before and no later than 6 a.m. on collection day. The limit is 3 cubic yards per household per week (about the size of three stoves).

Material What the county says
Drywall (sheetrock, wallboard) Small amounts: break it up and put it in the green-lid garbage cart. Don't go over the cart's 300 lb weight limit. Large amounts: take them to the Orange County Landfill.
Carpet & padding If it doesn't fit in the garbage cart, set it out for large-item collection. Bundles 3 feet long or less, each roll under 60 lbs, even if wet.
Wood fence panels Cut privacy panels into quarters and stack them neatly at the curb, or break them into slats and bundle with string or twine. Bundles 3 feet or less and under 60 lbs. Flatten or remove all nails.
Chain link fence Cut into 3-foot lengths and roll into sections under 60 lbs. Knock concrete off metal posts and put the concrete in the garbage cart (300 lb limit).
Wood / lumber Cut into 3-foot sections and tie into bundles under 60 lbs for large-item collection.
Concrete Small amounts: break up and put in the garbage cart (300 lb limit). Large amounts: Orange County Landfill.
"Construction waste" in general (building materials, tile, concrete posts) The tool's best option is drop-off at the Orange County Landfill.

Other county rules that apply:

Storm damage is different. After a hurricane, the county may activate a special storm-debris collection, and storm construction debris must be kept separate from vegetation. See our storm debris guide.

Asbestos (by appointment only; must be packed to FDEP and Orange County specifications) $185.00/ton Not accepted (landfill only)

Asbestos: check before you tear out old materials

The Orange County Landfill takes asbestos by appointment only, packed to FDEP and county specifications, at $185/ton. Ask the Solid Waste Hotline (407-836-6601) how to book an appointment. Florida DEP says the federal asbestos rules (NESHAP) exempt residential buildings with four or fewer units, as long as the project isn't part of a larger multi-building project, the building was never used commercially, and it isn't being demolished for a commercial structure. The landfill's appointment-only rule for asbestos still applies. See the FDEP asbestos FAQ.

Pay someone to haul it

If you don't want to load it yourself, a hauler can take it. Inside City of Orlando limits, construction and demolition project debris must go through a City-approved roll-off hauler (the City itself is on that list). We haven't verified prices for Orlando-area haulers or junk-removal companies, so we don't list any. When you get a quote, ask whether landfill fees are included and how weight is charged.

Frequently asked questions

Will Orange County pick up drywall or carpet at the curb?

In unincorporated Orange County, the county's What Goes Where tool says small amounts of drywall can be broken up and put in the green-lid garbage cart (don't exceed the cart's 300-pound limit). Carpet and padding that don't fit in the cart can go out for large-item collection on your garbage day in bundles 3 feet long or less, each roll under 60 pounds even if wet. Large amounts of drywall, and construction waste in general, should go to the Orange County Landfill.

How do I get rid of an old fence in Orange County?

For unincorporated county curbside collection, cut privacy fence panels into quarters and stack them neatly at the curb, or break them into slats and bundle them with string or twine in bundles 3 feet long or less and under 60 pounds. Flatten or remove all nails. Roll chain link into 3-foot lengths under 60 pounds and knock concrete off metal posts. The weekly large-item limit is 3 cubic yards.

Does the City of Orlando pick up remodel debris?

The city's options for construction materials are a dumpster-bag pickup ($100 per bag, billed on your OUC bill) or a City roll-off dumpster (20 or 30 yard, charged by the ton; the city confirms the cost when you request one). The city requires that construction and demolition project debris be handled by an approved roll-off hauler. Fences and pressure-treated wood are not accepted as yard waste. Call Solid Waste at 407.246.2314.

How much does the Orange County Landfill charge for construction debris?

Construction and demolition debris (Class III) is $42.70 per ton at the Orange County Landfill, with a $10 minimum charge, at rates effective October 1, 2026. Class III isn't accepted at the Porter or McLeod Road transfer stations. Uncovered loads are charged double, and mixed loads are charged the higher rate.
