How to get rid of a propane tanks & grills

Propane tanks can't go in any trash or recycling cart, and they aren't picked up at the curb, because a tank that still holds gas can cause a truck fire. The easiest options are swapping the tank at a store's exchange cage or taking it to a free county household hazardous waste drop-off. The grill itself is a different story: once the tank is off, it can usually go out as a large item.
